Assalamu Alaykum,
Please could you answer this before tomorrow!
We're doing 'Eid on sunday. some people are fasting today because they are doing eid tomorrow.
For those who are doing it on sunday, shey shoould be fasting on saturday because for them, that's yowmul arafah however, there is a chance that saturday is eid, hence it will be haram for us to fast on saturday and the fast of yowmul arafah is nafil anyway.

I know that alot of people fast on this day (non Hajis) but isn't that because of something Nabi (s) said? I'm not sure but if so, what is the hadeeth.

For those not perfuming Hajj it is Mustahabb (desirable) to fast on this day according to their own calendar. It sometimes occurs that the date of 9th Zulhijjah falls on different days in different countries according to the sighting of the moon. In such cases, Muslims of each country should observe Youmul Arafah according to the lunar dates of their own country.
For example, if Youmul Arafah is being observed in Saudi Arabia on Friday and in England on Saturday, England Muslims should treat Saturday as Youmul Arafah and should fast on that day if they desire to benefit from the fast of Youmul Arafah.
The fast of Youmul Arafah has been emphasized by the Prophet peace be up on him as Mustahabb (desirable) act. According to Hadith the fast of this day becomes a cause hopefully so, of forgiveness for the sins committed in one year.

Asalamu Alaikum
I am glade you have found this helpful, the above ruling is regarding two different countries. Nevertheless, the issue of having two very different sightings and opinions of the moon in the same locality which results in division with in a community is still debatable.
